This is something i've been wanting to do for a while, and only today did i get around to it. However, I seem to be having problems getting it to work. I can't get the BrailleNote to show up in the combo box where the Braille displays should be listed. I'm running jaws version 5.0, and keysoft 5.1. any suggestions on what to do? I don't really know what i'm doing...
thanks!
ok, now the BrailleNote is appearing in the combo box, but the problem is that jaws says "Cannot initialize Braille driver". any suggestions? thanks!
Couldn't honestly tell you exactly how to work that out. Yeah, i'm defeating my purpose if I had one in the first place aren't i? LOL
No, but seriously, I don't have jaws on this computer i'm using, but get at me later, i just might have an answer for you.
i figured it out! yay! its pretty cool!
I've never used the BN as a dispklay but my friend has and says it works pretty well, although I seem to call he had some problems with it sometimes, like it being vague or something? Dunno. But internet browing on the BN is bad, I know that.
yeah, it isn't perfect, but it still is pretty cool to be able to read what you're typing on the computer.
That's so awesome. I've never used a braille display extensively with a computer at all, and would love to give it a go at some point! Must get a serial cble so I can hook my BN to my computer. That'd rock!
Because some of us are actually LITERATE!!!
Try doing these things when you're using the BN as a Braille display:
1. Make sure you press T from the main menu to enter terminal mode before JAWS starts, and that your BN is plugged into the null modem cable (which should have come with your BN).
2. Press Insert+F2 to bring up the Utilities manager. Select Configuration Manager.
3. Press ctrl+shift+D to open the Default file.
5. Press Alt+S, then choose Braile Options...
6. Check "enable Grade 2 translation" if you want it, and "expand current word at cursor."
7. Tab to the "tether braille to PC cursor" box and check it.
8. Pres enter, then ctrl+S to save your settings.
9. Press alt+f4 to exit out of the configuration manager.
When using the BN in terminal mode, the action of the thumb keys is reversed. So use the outer keys to pan the display left and right, and use the inner keys to move the cursor up and down one line. It takes a little getting used to, but you can change the setting in JAWS if it really drives you nuts.
thanks for the info... especially about the thumbkeys!
